February 2026- GFT members are joining the movement to tell lawmakers to raise revenue from the ultra-wealthy. Our schools, colleges, and communities depend on it.
Revenue from the ultra-wealthy = fully funded classrooms + affordable tuition + honored pensions + safer communities.
Putting people over profits means we’re fighting for
✅ Smaller classes and more resources in K12 schools
✅ Affordable higher education tuition
✅ Public worker pensions honored
✅ Safe, strong communities
It all starts with revenue from the ultra wealthy.
The future well-being of our neighbors, communities, and state depends on our ability to fund the pillars of our democracy: public education, public programs, and workers. And the path to that is sustainable revenue from taxing the ultra-wealthy and corporations.
Illinois families shouldn’t bear the brunt of an unfair tax system while billionaires pay less.
We’re calling on lawmakers to tax the ultra-wealthy and fund our schools—from pre-K to higher ed.
Students deserve support. Educators deserve dignity. Communities deserve investment.
Illinois: Put people over profits and tax corporations and the ultra rich.

December 2025 - GFT President Coye Flores, along with other LCFT leaders, attended the recent AFT Leader Conference in Chicago. This annual gathering brings together union leaders from across the Great Lakes region to collaborate with AFT’s national officers and staff on strategies to strengthen organizing, expand member engagement, and build collective power. The conference focuses on mobilizing members, supporting public education, and preparing locals for the work ahead in 2025–2026. Our participation ensures that Grayslake’s voice remains part of the broader conversation shaping the future of our profession and our union.

October 2025 - This October, all of our officers attended the 2025 IFT Convention in Rosemont, Illinois - a key gathering of local-union leaders from across the state. At the convention, delegates came together to reconnect, highlight our union victories, and set IFT’s big-picture priorities for the next three years under the theme “Inspire. Fight. Transform.” We debated and voted on important resolutions, constitutional amendments, and elected new leadership for IFT - decisions that will shape the direction of our union going forward.
October 2025 - Our Logo Reveal Party was a great success! Everyone enjoyed Bill’s Pub pizza, apps, drinks, and raffle tickets for our new merch—plus GMS scored an extra ticket for having the biggest turnout. Huge thank-you to Beth Remedi for planning such a fun night! Congrats to Jennifer Everett, whose design is now our official logo. She won the $250 prize and will also run our merch store. We’re excited about our new look and want to see it everywhere—check it out and support the GFT!
May 2025 - Congratulations to Grayslake PSRP Yahaira Alvarez on winning Educator of the Year in the Education Service Personnel category. Your union brothers and sisters from the Grayslake Federation of Teachers are so proud of you!
